![]() ![]() This was the first test i did using water and a subwoofer. In the end after all our work our finished speakers looked like this. So i felt that building the speaker and using it in the experiment would bring a different perspective to how my work is viewed. My speaker cabinet is one of the things that personalises my cymatic project as similar works with vodka and other liquids have been done before. It was something completely new to me and i took it as a challenge and motivation to learn more about acoustic design, carpentry, electrical wiring, using a laser cutter and working with paint. I used a soldering iron to hold the wires together firmly after the cone was attached to the wooden cabinet.īuilding the speakers was a major part of our project as we had to learn a lot of skills in order to complete it. In the speaker cabinet i installed an 8 inch Gradient Axis AX-08 Full range Loudspeaker I also knew i would be using light to focus on the speaker cone and a white finish would look best when light reflects of it. Most important to the finish of my cabinet is that it looks like an art piece when being used in a scientific experiment. I decided to use white paint as a finish to my cabinet as i planned on having cymatic based drawings, quotes and pictures on the outside of the speaker. I found it very striking to look at so i incorporated it with my logo While taking the above photo, my phone camera malfunctioned and it it created an interesting capture of the top of my speaker box. ![]() We had to insulate the cabinet to ensure the best audio sound was reproduced when we put in the speaker driver. Building my own speaker box and incorporating cymatic based artwork on it has allowed me to design my experiment apparatus to my preferred specification as well as making it interesting to look at. I personally thought it would be interesting to look into cymatic patterns that occur when sounds vibrate a membrane like water, alcohol, and other liquid based substances. ![]() In order to do this I have decided to work collaboratively with colleagues to build custom speakers that would be used in various cymatic exploration experiments. For my interdisciplinary project I would be exploring cymatics and energy transference from one form to another. ![]()
